Magic Land
I thought roses bloom in Spring or Summer but the roses in our garden are still blooming even in the cold November New England weather. Perhaps that piece of garden has some sort of magic power.

Spring Romance
We have a purple red cherry tree that blooms so magnificently. Every part of the tree is a gorgeous painting. In a way, this cherry tree is like life, appreciate every moment while you can for time does not wait.

Winter Beauty
The world has been decorated by its seasonal flowers. Here is the winter plum flower, the colder it gets, the more it blooms. The Chinese chose this flower as their national flower because it reflects the strength of the Chinese people under adversity.

Fresh Morning
A pair of warblers resting on a peony. It is a truly challenge to fit everything in such a small space. If the painting size is big, the arrangement would have many possibilities to tell the story.

The Moment of Joy
Sometimes we would get a surprise which makes us as happy as these two birds. Looks like they've spotted lunch - I wonder how they will share it.

A Subtle Scent
The peony has both the quality of elegance and nobility no matter which kind or what color. I enjoy studying and looking at the different stages of its beauty, from bud to full bloom. No wonder Chinese think of the peony as the symbol of fortune seeing how it flourishes so splendidly.

This was the first painting that I painted after my Asian trip, because I missed out all the beautiful purple bluish Iris flowers in our garden this year.

Nature's Melody
SOLD
After a month away from home, the strangest thing was that all my house plants were still flourishing as if I was there giving them water! Usually they can only last one week without water before they would be drooping. This is such a mysterious phenomenon!

Going Home
I just took my whole family back to Asia to visit my family for a month. I painted this painting to represent my return to my homeland.

Bird Holiday
It is said that birds of a feather flock together. Here are three good friends out and about enjoying the pleasures of the bamboo forest. Hope your friends are as much fun to be with!

By the Lake
SOLD
Hope is like a "drug". We can't live without hope. Hope is something that can really make us have a peaceful mind when we are feeling terribly sad and helpless. I really wonder if only human beings have a such wonderful "drug" to heal their soul.

Spring Melody
I went to judge more than three hundred Chinese paintings and pieces of calligraphy. There are so many young Chinese-American artists in US who enjoy learning this type of art. Seeing that kind of energy and passion, it reminded me of when I was young.

Deep Radiance

The peonies in our garden have started blooming. It's really a challenge for me to paint such a large flower in such a small space, but I am captivated by their beauty.Sunday, April 13, 2008

Summer Passion
When we lived in upstate New York, we had a rose garden, they were just so beautiful, I used to sketch a lot when they were blooming all over the place, I was just afraid to miss out any of the pretty ones before they were gone. Here is one of the red memories.

We've had so much snow this year, everything is blanketed in white, I didn't see or hear the little stream when I went out for a walk. The stream that flows under the stone bridge in this painting is like the one I pass by, I am also followed by this cute black dog. This painting is result of my walking.

Cool moments in the summer are a wonderful time to reflect on the rhythms of life. There were many times when I would sit at pond's edge and paint such scenes. Now, in the grip of winter, this type of coolness is appreciated.

Good Friends
3.5'' x 5'' Watercolor
SOLD
Sometimes I walked out of a show with not much impression about what I saw, but recently my eye was caught by some outstanding oil paintings, good painting speaks for itself indeed, even though I wasn't trained in such a tradition, it moves me. They are just incredibly good. I am glad that I can view such master works often.

Before Sleep
SOLD
I've been working on a big piece of a detailed painting for several days now. Sometimes the more colors you put on, the messier it gets since it is a water color painting. It's very important to know when it is the right time to stop.

After Rainfall
Today I spent some time in an art gallery. There were oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, aqua tint and gouache paintings, it's quite impressive. I was fascinated by all the different materials that artists used to paint on. They painted oil paintings on paper, linen, panel, silk, hardboard, copper, Masonite, ivory and, of course, canvas.
This is a bit different from Chinese paintings which are painted on various types of paper and silk. It would be interesting to find out why there is such a difference in materials between the two cultures.
I put this rose painting on today. Can you tell the paper is as thin as a cicada's wing?

Yesterday it wasn't just New Years Eve, but also my daughter's birthday. We celebrated both, it was just fantastic. Today is the New Year, I called my mother who lives in Taiwan, we had a great conversation, we are going back to see her. My mother and I are both in high spirits and very excited for this trip. I look forward to seeing all my family! This is my New Year wish and gift!
Besides all this, my husband's novel (Dream of the Dragon Pool: A Daoist Quest) was just named Book of the Year for fiction 2007 (http://www.onlinereviewofbooks.com/) It is truly a new year! This is why I've put this new painting entitled --A Thousand Blessings up for today.
